Profile:
Rohit Sharma started his career as a managing partner with Acumen exports (exporter of leather goods). He took a study break in 1997 and did his Masters from Lancaster University, UK. He returned to India to develop the strategies for web publishing, generating content and building communities on the Internet for Cyber Media India Limited.
During this period he was responsible for creating the business plan and strategy for www.ciol.com, India’s largest IT portal and spearheaded the VC funding portal and got Intel to fund the company.
Thereafter he moved to Times Internet Limited, the online division of “The Times of India Group”, India’s largest media house. He has over 13 years’ experience in sales and marketing.
In his six year stint with Indiatimes.com, he managed a large number of projects ranging across content, commerce, technology and marketing.
These include:
- Launching over 10 internet vertical channels for www.indiatimes.com, one of the largest online portal in India, including Games, Infotech, Women, People, Travel, Automobiles.
- Business Head of Indiatimes Mindscape, the events division of Indiatimes.
- National Sales Head of online advertising.
- Project head for their e-commerce portal.
- Head of online alliances such as Google, Yahoo etc.
He was part of the senior leadership and instrumental in creating strategies and plans for the overall growth of the organisation. He was part of the core team making presentation to the world's leading VCs and responsible for getting a valuation of $500 million for Indiatimes.com.
Rohit is presently the Chief Operating officer of www.zapak.com. He joined as the Head of Zapak.com in March 2006 and has built the entire team and business from scratch and is responsible for making the overall business plan.
He has successfully built a team of over 229 professionals and a sound business model for gaming in India.
In a short span, he has been the driving force to position Zapak as India’s No. 1 Gaming Portal. In the last 6 months Rohit has extensively travelled to China, Korea and US to understand the markets and industry.
